What is VST?
The Virtual Studio Technology (VST) interface was developed by Steinberg and launched in 1996. VST helps to creat full studio environment on a computer. PC and Mac platform are suppoerted.
VST integrates software like virtual effects and virtual instruments into common digital audio environment under the host application. From the simple wavetable synthesizers to complex samplers: all units are routed directly to the common mixer in host application.
Due to 'virtuality' of these connections, there is no need for messy physical cabling. These VST modules have the sound quality of the best hardware units, yet are far more flexible. All functions of a VST effects or VST instrument could are controllable and automatable, either with a mouse or with an external controller.
VST is an open standard. New virtual effects and virtual instruments are constantly being developed by Steinberg and third-party companies.
